2026 DELEGATE ESSAY COMPETITON

YMUNSA 2026 will host a 2026 essay competition!

RULES & GUIDELINES:

• The essay must be between 1,000 and 1,500 words.

• Genuine, reputable sources should be cited across the writing.

• Strong essays will present a compelling argument with a nuanced analysis between cultural diversity and international diplomacy.

• Your submission will fall under TWO divisions.

  • JUNIOR DIVISION: Current High School students and younger.

  • COLLEGIATE DIVISION: High School graduates.

• Entry to the compeition is free if you are a fully registered and paid delegate. Otherwise, a $50 participation fee is required.

YMUNSA will review the submissions anonymously and award the top three papers with a choice of cash prize, YMUNSA merchandise, or a brief speaking slot on the conference stage.

South Asia's history has been shaped by significant "conquest, migration, and settlement" (Columbia University South Asia Institute). As a result, various forms of identity spanning religion, traditions, languages, and social structures have come to define the region. Though this process has cultivated a culturally rich expanse, many believe it has fragmented diplomatic ties across South Asian territories whilst hampering relationships with the broader international community.

Responding in no more than 1,500 words, discuss the connection and challenges between cultural diversity and diplomacy as it pertains to South Asia. How should cultural distinction be maintained without compromising regional and international cooperation.
